The Royal Far West Multidisciplinary team recently travelled to Wilcannia (via Broken Hill) in Far Western NSW to provide face to face supports to students, parents/carers and educators at Wilcannia Central School and St Therese Community Parish School.

Rachel (Speech Pathologist) and Caitlyn (Occupational Therapist) had a busy week observing, assessing and building relationships with students at the Central school.  The Clinicians met with educators to discuss whole class supports and strategies and connected with stakeholders from NSW Health including the WHIN nurse and Brighter Beginnings.

Community engagement and shared learning

Midweek, the team joined a workshop led by Sam (Psychologist) focused on sleep and gaming habits–topics that resonate deeply with families and educators alike. The session was followed by a community dinner hosted at the Central School, offering a relaxed and welcoming space for parents/carers, teachers, and the Royal Far West team to come together and share stories over a meal.

Strengthening longstanding relationships

Sam (Psychologist) continued the week at St Therese’s, conducting high-priority cognitive assessments with students. The visit concluded with a stop at Sacred Heart Parish School in Broken Hill – an especially meaningful moment, as Sam has supported both schools online for several years. Meeting students, staff, and families in person brought a renewed sense of connection and collaboration.
