Volunteering
Interested in Volunteering?
We’d love to hear from you!
Volunteers are an essential part of the Royal Far West team, giving their time and skills to help us support country children Australia-wide.
HOW IT WORKS
Our amazing volunteers include long-term regulars who support our staff in various departments and others who help at specific events and with one-off projects.
After you’ve expressed interest in volunteering with us, we’ll contact you discuss what you’d like to do, what your skills are, our existing roles and availability and then we’ll be able to welcome you as a valued Royal Far West volunteer.
Mandatory requirements:
- Be 18+ years old (under 18’s please see ‘School Work Experience’)
-
Undergo a Working with Children Check (free for volunteers)
-
Complete some mandatory online training programs
-
If you’re working with our children and families we require you to be vaccinated (information provided when you register)
LET’S GET STARTED
Types of Roles:
Firstly, volunteer roles working directly with our children are limited. Our kids are very busy during their stay at RFW attending their many appointments, school and the recreation program. The majority of our volunteer roles involve supporting our staff in an administrative capacity, assisting with projects or helping at events.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
If you’re completing community service hours for school, university or working on your Duke of Edinburgh or similar, please contact us to see if we have spots available. Please note, we are unable to accommodate overnight stays for Duke of Edinburgh as we are a care-by-parent facility and persons under 18 are not allowed to stay on the premises without an adult guardian.
SCHOOL WORK EXPERIENCE
It’s always encouraging to have school students wanting to be involved with us. School work experience weeks offer students a set program working in different parts of the organisation to get a flavour of various industries and professions.
While we wish we could take everyone who applies we are only able to take a few students for Year 10 work experience every year. Get in quick!
CORPORATE VOLUNTEERING
We love hosting corporate groups for their team building days. Previous groups have assisted us with professional strategic support, cooking dinner for our families and running events. Preference is given to existing partners of Royal Far West but we also welcome other groups.
Please contact us at corporate@royalfarwest.org.au for all corporate volunteering enquiries.

Take a look at our interview with Royal Far West volunteer, Stephanie

I retired at 69 in 2013, and after one month of retirement I started volunteering here, and have been coming here one day each week ever since!
I love volunteering here because they support and give hope to many families. I am contributing to a cause I care about from a personal connection, and I enjoy the company and the friendships I have made here.
