Helping communities heal and thrive after disaster in Forbes

Disaster impacted school communities in the Forbes shire of Western NSW are continuing their journey of recovery and building resilience for the future, with the support of Royal Far West.

Our Multidisciplinary team recently visited both St Laurence’s Parish School Forbes and Forbes Public School – NSW DEC. The team also met with Forbes Shire Council and community organisation Boys To The Bush to connect, collaborate and learn more about local services.

This included:

  • Clinicians spending time in classrooms and with educators to share developmental health rich classroom strategies.
  • Face to face delivery of the Cool Kids anxiety group program
  • Professional development workshop for educators on understanding regulation and supporting students’ alertness and engagement in learning.
  • Parent workshop on helping your child navigate worry and anxiety

These supports are part of a broader, evidence-informed model designed to strengthen resilience, promote recovery and reduce the long-term impacts of disasters on children and their communities.

This initiative is proudly funded under the Disaster Ready Fund – an Australian Government Initiative, with support from both the Australian Government and the NSW Government.
