Royal Far West’s multidisciplinary team recently returned from a productive and heart‑warming week in Bourke, continuing our partnership with Bourke & District Children’s Services (BDCS) to support children’s development and their transition to primary school. The visit is part of a broader initiative funded by the Minderoo Foundation, which enables regular in‑community support complemented by telehealth between visits.

Across the week, Speech Pathologist Rose, Occupational Therapist Caitlyn, Psychologist Samantha and General Manager Kim Casburn worked closely with educators, families and community partners to build a shared understanding of each child’s strengths and needs. The team completed classroom observations, held parent and carer meetings, and engaged in rich discussions with BDCS staff to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time.

A highlight of the trip was the opportunity to spend meaningful time with children, families and educators—deepening relationships that make this partnership so impactful.

The team also connected with the Western NSW Brighter Beginnings team over a lively game of pub trivia, strengthening the collaborative spirit that underpins this whole‑of‑community approach.

Royal Far West is proud to work alongside BDCS and local stakeholders to deliver multidisciplinary screening and allied health services for children in the Bourke region. With four in‑community visits each year and ongoing telehealth supports, this model ensures families in rural and remote communities can access the developmental care they deserve.
