MEDIA RELEASE: A great Manly stay can make a big difference to a country child’s life

Our Drummond House guest house has reopened for business – offering affordable weekend accommodation just steps from the iconic Manly beach.

“We’re thrilled to reopen and offer a great value weekend holiday experience for our guests. Not only is it perfectly located to enjoy all that Manly has to offer, every booking helps us to raise much needed funds to support country kids in need,” said Royal Far West’s Head of Accommodation and Venues, Pip Abbott.

During the week, Royal Far West’s team of 95+ paediatric clinicians support children with speech and language delays, behavioural and learning difficulties, early life trauma and mental illness at their site in Manly, as well as via Telecare and community visits.

Following a year-long hiatus, the charity is again opening its doors to weekend holiday makers, with a central location that is perfectly situated for a mini break. In addition to the beach, guests are just steps away from great shops, cafés, restaurants and night life, and it is a short, flat walk from the ferry terminal for those arriving by public transport.

Pre-COVID, the rooms were very popular with guests attending northern beaches’-based events, including football matches, surf carnivals, food festivals and weddings, and for people living in rural and remote NSW wanting a city-cation at an affordable price.

The funds raised from holiday bookings go straight towards helping developmentally vulnerable children who live in rural and remote areas to access the health and wellbeing services they need to thrive.

The 34 rooms, each with bathroom, tv and tea/coffee making facilities, are available most Friday and Saturday nights, and are also available over the entire Easter, June and October long weekends. There’s a variety of room configurations from 2-6 beds, making them suitable for friends, couples and families. For peace of mind, the charity offers a risk-free COVID booking policy, enabling guests to cancel without penalty until the day of their stay.

The average tariff for a budget twin room is $140 per night, which includes a generous continental breakfast. Free WiFi, communal kitchenettes, lounge and dining areas are also available, with undercover parking and BBQ facilities also offered onsite.

The current review rating on Booking.com is 8.9 and location rating is 9.8. Comments include: “Beds were very comfortable and staff very helpful.” “I would definitely stay here again. Great value for money.”
