MEDIA STATEMENT: Royal Far West CEO Announces Departure After Nine Years of Transformative Leadership

Royal Far West today announced that Chief Executive Officer Jacqui Emery will step down at the end of December after nine years with the organisation, including more than four years as CEO.

Under Jacqui’s leadership, Royal Far West has undergone a significant transformation, strengthened its foundations, and expanded its reach to support more children and families in rural and remote communities than ever before.

Chair of the Board, Joan Treweeke, said: “It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that we farewell Jacqui. Her strategic mind, deep relationship-building skills, and unwavering passion for our mission have been instrumental in positioning Royal Far West for the future. Jacqui has led the organisation through times of great change, including the challenges of COVID, and has ensured that country children remain front and centre in policy conversations. Thanks to her leadership, we are well placed to continue our purpose for the next hundred years and beyond.”

During her tenure, Jacqui achieved several major milestones:

  • Doubled the size of the organisation, expanding services to 387 rural communities and over 31,000 beneficiaries annually.
  • Secured more than $25 million in multi-year funding, ensuring sustainability and growth.
  • Strengthened and expanded nationally recognised programs, including the Paediatric Development Program and Schools & Early Years service, now operating in 200 schools and preschools nationwide.
  • Improved governance and operational excellence, embedding a culture of accountability and achieving four accreditations.
  • Advocated for country communities, influencing policy through parliamentary testimonies, expert panels, and sector alliances.

Outgoing CEO Jacqui Emery reflected on her time with the organisation: “This is a deeply emotional moment for me. When I first joined Royal Far West, my son said, ‘Go look after those kids, Mum.’ Those words have been my compass ever since. Together, we have achieved something remarkable – transforming the organisation, innovating through challenges, and strengthening partnerships so we could continue to lovingly wrap around families when they needed us most. I am so proud of what we have accomplished as a team. It has been the greatest honour of my career to lead alongside such passionate and resilient people.”

Jacqui will be joining The Northern Sydney PHN operated by the Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) in early 2026, as Chief Executive Officer.

Jacqui added: “While I am excited about the next chapter in my journey, I will always carry with me the memories of the profound impact we’ve made for hundreds of rural and remote communities. The future of Royal Far West is bright because of the incredible team and their unwavering commitment to country kids.”

The Board has appointed COO Mark Driessen as Acting CEO and will commence an external search process immediately to ensure a smooth transition.
