As part of Speech Pathology Week 2025, we’re proud to introduce Jess—one of our passionate speech pathologists helping children in rural and remote communities thrive.
Jess has been with Royal Far West since her final university placement, and five and a half years later, she’s still making a powerful impact. Through our Schools and Early Years program, Jess is part of a team that supports children across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia via telehealth and community visits.
“I love working closely with educators and children. Visiting communities and seeing their world firsthand is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.”
Jess’s work goes far beyond speech sounds. She supports children with language, literacy, fluency, and even feeding—tailoring strategies to each child’s needs.
A Moment of Pride
Earlier this year, Jess presented at the Speech Pathology Australia conference, sharing Royal Far West’s innovative work with colleagues from across the country.
“It made me feel so proud of the impact we’re making.”
Jess’s Top Tip: Shared Book Reading
One of Jess’s favourite strategies for parents and educators is shared book reading.
“Reading books and looking at the pictures together can promote confidence, literacy development, and language skills. It’s also a beautiful opportunity for connection—making it a special one-to-one time and part of your routine.”
Three Words to Describe Her Role: Fun. Collaborative. Enlightening.
“Not only do I support clients—they teach me a lot too,” said Jess, and it’s clear that her role is as enriching for her as it is for the children she supports. For Jess, fun means bringing creativity and play into therapy sessions—finding joy in helping children express themselves and celebrating their progress. Her work is collaborative, involving close partnerships with educators, families, and fellow clinicians to ensure each child receives holistic, tailored support. And it’s enlightening, as every interaction offers new insights into the diverse experiences of country kids and the communities they live in.
Thank you, Jess, for your dedication, warmth, and commitment to country kids. Your work embodies the heart of Royal Far West’s mission—and we’re proud to celebrate you this Speech Pathology Week.
