The Royal Far West Schools & Early Years Services team recently set out on their first visit to Wilcannia Central School and Barlu Kurli Preschool, marking the beginning of an exciting new partnership. This visit was to provide vital speech pathology and occupational therapy services to the students, particularly those from preschool to Year 2. 

The initial visit was more than just an introduction –  it was an opportunity for the team to immerse themselves in the local community, guided by the school’s Aboriginal Education Officer and Community Engagement Leader. We were privileged to visit significant cultural sites, including the beautiful Baaka river and the local cemetery, places that hold deep cultural and healing significance. 

This on-the-ground and in the community experience has laid a strong foundation for the work ahead. By understanding the Wilcannia community’s unique needs and establishing these early connections, our team are better positioned to provide tailored, ongoing support through our telehealth services. This partnership is a vital step in ensuring that every child at Wilcannia Central School and Barlu Kurli Preschool receives the developmental support they need.
