Royal Far West and Multiplex have celebrated a major milestone in the Aurora residential development, with the project officially reaching its tallest point. The topping out ceremony, held last Thursday on Manly’s iconic South Steyne, marks significant progress in a landmark project designed to strengthen Royal Far West’s long‑term capacity to support country children and their families.
Located at 19–21 South Steyne, Aurora is designed by world‑renowned architects Glenn Murcutt AO and Angelo Candalepas. Once complete, the development will deliver 58 luxury residences across three buildings, with sale proceeds directly supporting Royal Far West’s mission to improve health outcomes for rural and remote children.
The Aurora project forms part of the broader Royal Far West Neighbourhood — a mixed‑use precinct that will include public retail, commercial and lifestyle spaces, along with 20 revitalised accommodation rooms for visiting families.
The topping out event was attended by Federal Member for Warringah Zali Steggall, Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins, Royal Far West Board Chair Joan Treweeke OAM LLB, CEO Dr Briony Scott, ANZ partners, Lighthouse Project Group, Royal Far West and School staff and the Multiplex project team.
“Royal Far West is immensely proud and excited to see the Aurora residential development reach its tallest point — a significant event that reflects the skill and dedication behind this complex project,” said Royal Far West Board Chair Joan Treweeke OAM LLB. “This development strengthens our long‑term capacity to deliver vital paediatric health services to country children and their families.”
Multiplex Regional Director Patrick Murphy said the milestone reflects the team’s ability to safely deliver a complex project in a live, coastal environment. “We’re proud to reach this milestone for Royal Far West, delivering premium residences and new facilities that will help improve access to vital health services for country children.”
The project has involved significant engineering achievements, including the construction of a hydrostatic basement on a high‑water‑table site. Multiplex installed 14 deep dewatering wells, removing more than 922 megalitres of water over 329 days — equivalent to 369 Olympic‑sized swimming pools. The façade incorporates glass reinforced concrete, precast panels, glazed ceramic tiles and complex architectural geometries, with multiple full‑scale prototypes developed to ensure precision.
With more than 13,000 cubic metres of concrete placed and over 270 precast panels installed, Aurora is now entering its next phase: façade completion, interior fit‑out and landscaping. The full Royal Far West Neighbourhood is scheduled for completion in Q4 2026.
Aurora represents a once‑in‑a‑generation opportunity to secure sustainable funding for Royal Far West’s essential developmental, mental health and disability services — ensuring country children can access the care they need, no matter where they live.
