A drive through Proserpine, past Queensland’s iconic Big Mango and inland to Collinsville and Scottville has become a familiar journey for Royal Far West’s Early Years team. More importantly, it represents an ongoing commitment to supporting children, families, and educators in these regional communities through consistent, relationship-based care.
During the recent Term 2 in-community week, Royal Far West clinicians worked alongside educators at Little Diggers Collinsville and C&K Kindergarten Collinsville-Scottville, providing developmental health support in environments that are familiar and comfortable for local children and families.
The multidisciplinary team, including a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Psychologist, delivered 91 clinical occasions of care across the week. Activities included child observations, consultations with parents and educators, and practical coaching designed to build confidence and capability within early learning settings.
This collaborative approach ensures support is not limited to individual children but helps strengthen the broader network of adults who play a critical role in children’s development. By working directly with educators and families, the team identifies needs early, shares practical strategies, and supports positive developmental outcomes.
The same clinical team continues to provide follow-up support, including reports, referrals, information and resources, regular check-ins and, where appropriate, teletherapy services, helping ensure children have access to ongoing, continuous care.
Working continuously with communities over time enables clinicians to develop a deeper understanding of local needs, build trusted relationships and deliver support that is flexible, practical, and responsive to each community’s context.
Royal Far West thanks Glencore Australia for its longstanding support of this program. Through this partnership, children, families and educators in Collinsville and Scottville can continue to access specialist early years services that help children build strong foundations for lifelong learning, health and wellbeing.
