Most of the kids coming to our Windmill Program in Manly adore our recreation activities.
To ensure they don’t miss out on these activities while they are in COVID-19 isolation at home, our Rec Team has created an amazing virtual rec experience for them, delivered via online platform Zoom into each child’s home.
Recreation Online is designed to encourage children with disabilities including autism, intellectual disability, developmental or global delay to connect with kids of a similar age to get involved in lots of fabulous activities, all of which promote participation, social interaction and fun.
Recreation Online is live. The kids see and hear each other and the Rec Team members on their computers and are very quick to adapt to this way of sharing activities.
The activities include:
*graffiti name designs
*cooking pancakes
*science experiments
*talent extravaganza
*balloon volleyball
Accessible with the child’s NDIS package, parents may select either the one-week or two-week program. Both programs run every weekday afternoon from 3.30pm – 4.15pm.
The sessions have a maximum of six children and two staff. To encourage social interaction, the children stay in the same group for the whole program.
Early feedback from Recreation Online’s innovative program is very positive:
“Heaps of fun and very interactive”, said Kylie from Foster.
“Thank you so much RFW Rec team, we are so grateful for the chance to connect with buddies we met from camp, we both learnt a lot and had lots of fun participating in the online Rec program at such a difficult time, it really put a smile on our faces to have such great support”, said Sunny and Victoria from Milton.
“Kept our day in a good routine that impacted positively on my children’s behaviour”, said Naomi from Wagga Wagga
