Dubbo Paediatric Clinic: A Week of Collaboration, Connection and Community Impact

In late June, a multidisciplinary team from Royal Far West travelled from Manly to Dubbo for a week of in-community support—bringing specialist paediatric care directly to families who need it most.

The multidisciplinary team – comprising paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and educators – conducted assessments for eight families as part of the Paediatric Developmental Program at the Dubbo Paediatric Outpatient Hospital.

The visit also included professional learning sessions for teachers at Buninyong Public School, school visits to Coonamble, Gilgandra and Cumnock, and participation in a paediatric allied health forum breakfast.

This visit is part of Royal Far West’s expanded service delivery in Dubbo, made possible through a new agreement with Western NSW Local Health District and additional funding announced in the 2024–25 NSW State Budget.

The partnership enables us to provide specialist paediatric support for children with complex developmental needs who cannot access services locally. With Chief Medical Officer Dr. Marcel Zimmet now dedicating one day per week to Dubbo Hospital, and multidisciplinary teams visiting regularly, this initiative is helping bridge the gap in rural healthcare access.
