As a first-time corporate sponsor, ANZ’s support of Royal Far West is reflected in Stephen’s commitment. We asked him what made the Ride so memorable—and why supporting country kids matters.
What is your connection to Royal Far West and why did you choose to participate in the Ride for Country Kids?
I am a director within the Institutional Property and Health team within the ANZ Banking Group. I assist clients with their funding requirements for project developments. ANZ is funding the redevelopment of Drummond House on RFW’s site at Manly. Recognising our role as a key partner in the redevelopment, ANZ senior management saw an opportunity to extend our support beyond financing—through Community Sponsorship of the Ride for Country Kids. This included fielding a team of eight riders and two dedicated support crew members for the event.
Was there a particular moment, story or experience during the ride that stood out to you?
Day two began with an exuberant welcome at Cobar Primary School. A lively crowd of enthusiastic children eagerly gathered to greet the RFW riders as they rolled into the school grounds. Each child was given the chance to hop on a bike and enjoy a ride around the school yard, guided by the RFW riders themselves. The pure joy on the children’s faces and the personal connections formed during those moments resonated deeply.
What motivates ANZ to invest in organisations/charities like RFW, and how does this align with your broader values, CSR strategy or mission?
ANZ Banking Group’s support for organisations like RFW is tied directly to its purpose to shape a world where people and communities thrive. This principle drives the bank beyond traditional financial services to actively support initiatives that deliver meaningful social impact.
