Don't let distance
get in Andy's way.
Go beyond.

In the regions that feed our country, power our economy, and hold so much of our national identity, children are being left behind.

Andy is a bright, resilient seven-year-old from Far West NSW who loves sports and learning but sadly faced significant developmental challenges.

His struggles with anxiety, inattention, hyperactivity, emotional outbursts and sensory issues made everyday life more difficult.

While Andy was fortunate to receive an initial diagnosis locally, the lack of follow up support services meant he had no access to ongoing occupational therapy and speech pathology, putting his progress and future at risk.

We aim to raise $100,000 to provide vital developmental and mental health support to 20 more country kids like Andy, children who otherwise may fall through the cracks.

Thankfully, because of generous people like you, Andy’s story took a turn for the better. His mother, Joan, reached out to Royal Far West, and in April 2024, Andy underwent a comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessment at our Centre for Country Kids in Manly.

This life-changing evaluation, conducted by paediatricians, psychologists, speech therapists and occupational therapists, identified the right interventions and strategies to help Andy thrive.

By the end of 2024, Andy participated in an intensive therapy week at Royal Far West, which confirmed his diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Many families across Australia, like Andys, urgently need our help.

With the expert care and coordinated approach of our team, combined with new local support back home, Andy has made incredible strides. His anxiety has lessened; he is far more engaged in school and Joan has noticed a dramatic improvement in his behavior.

While Andy’s story is one of success, there are thousands of children across rural and remote Australia still waiting for the support they urgently need.

More than 1 in 3 children in remote and very remote communities are developmentally vulnerable in one or more key areas of their development. That’s double the rate of children living in major cities.

This means thousands of country kids are starting school already behind, struggling with language, social and emotional development, and physical skills. And without timely intervention, those early setbacks can turn into lifelong disadvantage.

We cannot let distance be the reason that children don’t get the help they need.

Your gift will help us reach more children in time, before their critical window for development closes.

Because when conditions like ADHD, ASD and anxiety go untreated, the consequences ripple across a child’s entire life: increasing their risk of long-term mental health issues, school failure, unemployment, even homelessness.

With your support, Royal Far West can continue providing assessments, therapy, and ongoing care for children who urgently need our help.

Together, we can ensure distance is never a barrier to the care children need.

We go beyond, so country kids can too.

“We first came to Manly late last year and it was the second time we had a week-long stay. At first, we thought it would be overwhelming, but the staff and all of the clinicians are lovely and have consistently gone above and beyond for Andy. I couldn’t feel more at home. I know so many kids around where we live who need the same support that Andy has received from Royal Far West over the past six months, but they simply can’t due to a lack of access. Please consider donating today so Royal Far West can support more children.
