100 Local Children Supported in the First Year of Royal Far West and Glencore Partnership in NSW

Bringing specialist child development and mental health services closer to home for families in Gulgong and Dunedoo.

A longstanding partnership between Royal Far West and Glencore is helping improve access to specialist health and developmental services for children living in regional Australia.

Since 2018, Glencore has supported Royal Far West’s work in regional Queensland, helping children and families access vital developmental and mental health services closer to home. In 2025, that partnership expanded into New South Wales, supporting Royal Far West’s work in Gulgong and Dunedoo, where the organisation has spent the past 12 months delivering multidisciplinary programs to local children and families.

The expansion reflects a shared commitment to ensuring country children can access the support they need regardless of where they live. By bringing specialist services directly into regional communities, the partnership is helping reduce the barriers that distance, travel and limited local service availability can create for families seeking care.

Over the program’s first year in NSW, 100 local children received developmental and mental health support that may otherwise have been difficult to access. Since July 2025, Royal Far West’s multidisciplinary team has delivered 346 clinical occasions of service through a combination of in-person and telehealth support across Gulgong and Dunedoo.

Children and families have benefited from specialist Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Psychology services, with support also extending to parents, carers and educators to strengthen outcomes across the child’s home and school environments.

Impact by the Numbers

In its first year in Gulgong and Dunedoo, the program has achieved:

  • 100 children supported
    • 27 through individual intervention
    • 73 through small-group and classroom strategies
  • 346 clinical occasions of service
  • 27 parents and carers supported
  • 38 educators supported
  • Services delivered across speech pathology, occupational therapy and psychology

These results demonstrate the value of delivering specialist expertise directly into regional communities, helping children access support when and where they need it most.

“Access to the right support at the right time can positively influence a child’s future outcomes and opportunities. The program is designed to ensure that geography does not determine a child’s ability to receive quality care and thrive.”
Dr Briony Scott, CEO of Royal Far West

A Partnership Creating Lasting Change

The Gulgong and Dunedoo initiative builds on a longstanding partnership between Royal Far West and Glencore, which first began in Queensland in 2018 before expanding into New South Wales in 2025.

Supported through a $1.2 million partnership, the program will continue providing services to children and families in Gulgong and Dunedoo, as well as communities in Queensland, through to June 2028.

For regional families, access to speech pathology, occupational therapy and psychology services can have a profound impact during a child’s early years. By bringing these services closer to home, Royal Far West and Glencore are helping children access the support they need to reach their full potential, regardless of where they live.
