Are We Right For You?

Please note that due to the overwhelming number of referrals received in 2011 and the large number of children already awaiting assessment, we deeply regret that for the first half of this year we are only able to accept referrals (for developmental services) for children residing in remote or very remote NSW.

The Australian Standard Geographical Classification – Remoteness Areas (ASGC-RA) classification for each town can be checked at the following Australian Government Website: http://www.health.gov.au/internet/otd/publishing.nsf/Content/locator

This is applicable to any referrals or enquiries received between 1 December 2011 and 1 July 2012.

Royal Far West's services are provided for children from rural, regional and remote NSW who cannot otherwise access these services. To be eligible to access our services you must:

  • be 0-12 years of age,
  • live in country NSW (north of Taree, south of Nowra, west of the Great Divide),
  • reside in an area where you do not have access to health services, and
  • fulfil any relevant clinical criteria.

As a consequence of the very high demand for our services and our imperative to focus on early intervention, Royal Far West is not able to provide assessment services to:

  • children 13 years or older;
  • children accessing appropriate local services, or for whom an appropriate local service exists (although Royal Far West may act as a secondary referral for those service providers);
  • children with acute conditions for which a more urgent response is required;
  • children whose behaviour or family situation comprises a risk to themselves or others, such that a visit to the Manly site is considered unsafe (these children may become eligible at a later date if issues resolve sufficiently);
  • children living outside of the catchment area;
  • children for whom the primary issue relates to their acute mental health.
