Almost 30 sulkies and their horses with 56 drivers and crew will travel 250km across the Liverpool Plains as part of the Liverpool Range Royal Far West Charity Drive over the next week.
The drive is a fundraiser for Royal Far West – a charity which helps NSW country kids access specialist healthcare.
The drive starts at Quirindi Heritage Village this Sunday, September 18, 2011 and finishes at Willow Tree on Saturday September 24, 2011.
Royal Far West interim CEO Lindsay Cane said the drive was a wonderful event which captured the essence of the children’s charity and the local Quirindi community.
“Each year kids from towns like Quirindi and Tamworth come to Royal Far West at Manly to get help with a range of developmental issues,” Ms Cane said.
“It’s exciting to be have Royal Far West supporters gather in the heart of country NSW and so actively support the work we do.
“Each day the Royal Far West staff hear how challenging life can be in regional and remote areas. It’s important we all understand the impact limited access to healthcare can have on country kids and their families.”
Liverpool Range Harness Club President Bill Greer is the driving force behind the event.
“We’d been on a lot of drives but not raised money for any cause but when I learnt about Royal Far West and heard there were about 150 kids from our area getting help each year I thought it was up to all of us to get involved,” he said.
“I’ve got drivers from places like Dunedoo, Walcha, Parkes and Goulburn because they also want to support the important work of Royal Far West.”
