Leaders unite at celebration dinner

22-Nov-2011

Leaders of business, politics, sport and community came together at the Royal Far West celebration dinner last night to improve healthcare for country children.

Headlining the night were country music sensation Lee Kernaghan who entertained more than 300 guests at the State Parliament event and the Hon John Howard AC who gave a passionate address about the Australian character and Royal Far West’s vital role in bringing healthcare to country children.

“There are three great elements within the Australian character – mateship, volunteerism and a tremendous love of the bush,” Mr Howard said.

“Naturally, an organisation that is looking after children in the bush who are doing it tough has a particular tug on the national heart strings.

“I admire the tenacity of the people from the bush but it’s the most distressing thing in the world to hear about people who are unable to give their children the same things, the same healthcare, that we have been able to give our own children.

“Royal Far West is a magnificent exemplar of mateship, compassion for the bush and volunteerism. This is a wonderful organisation that has stood the test of time because it has tapped into something we all care about.” Royal Far West CEO Lindsay Cane said the night, hosted by Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner, had been a wonderful success thanks to the bipartisan support it achieved.

“Royal Far West achieves amazing things because of the wonderful support it enjoys. The collective effort of Royal Far West, working with local people and local businesses, means that as a team, our achievements for country kids are truly remarkable,” Ms Cane said.

Other guests included Royal Far West Champions rugby legend Phil Waugh, bush poet Murray Hartin and Manly Sea Eagles player Glenn Stewart. Belgravia Wines at Orange was the major sponsor and the major prize on the night was a two night stay at the luxurious Wolgan Valley Resort in Lithgow.
